Dear Blog,
This weekend has been taken up largely with watching season 4 of LOST finally. It bored me for the first three episodes, but the next four hooked me back in. One thing that struck me though was that the character Desmond is actually almost a direct overlay for my mind's eye's version of Kelpie.In other news, we took our little girl to visit my partner's grandmother on Sunday. She's 95 now and is going downhill quite rapidly these days. She's physically fairly fragile but still up on her feet and able to walk around her house, but her mind is now starting to go. We picked a great day to go.. the day the clocks all have to be changed. She asked if we would mind changing her clocks... sure no problem .... we also had to try and tune in her TV (sorted) and also try to figure out, and then explain to her - a 95 year old who can no longer remember her own son's name - how to operate her 1986 Ferguson Videostar video recorder (no chance). She said nobody had ever set it up for her since she'd had it. On top of it were about 30 different sets of hand-written instructions from various friends and relatives, on different pieces of cardboard, clearly dating steadily back to the year she bought it.
But the best part was when she handed me a clock radio and said "Can you set this up for me as well please?". I set the time correctly then said "Do you use it as an alarm clock or just to tell the time?"... "Oh, just to tell the time dear, I don't want it to wake me up" ... "Oh well then I'll leave the alarm off then" ... "What? Oh No Dear, don't leave it off, I need it. I wont know when to get up dear"... " Oh, well, okay well, when do you want it to wake you up then?" ... "Oh, well, you know dear, for special occasions... things like that".
Right, I'll just press.... "special... occa....sions", aaaaaand... there. That's all set then. Anything else?
