I had a few horrible experiences. At this point in my career, I know enough people in the industry so I only wanna work for people I've worked with in the past and that's about it. Of course, with this recession, I might have to change my attitude but I've seen more damage done by recruiters than anything.

Some examples, one sent me to an interview on a wrong date. one missed a lunch meeting w me and called me a day later. Two recruiters got in fight over who represents me. one recruiter sends me emails like "so xxxx is looking for an AD, so if you are interested, call them up and tell them I sent you there". i mean come on! also, when it comes to negotiating money, I'd rather do it myself than have them do it.

It's true that if you want to break into the industry and scrape whatever work, they can help you to some extent but for a huge pay cut. Also they often have no clue about positions open and requirement for the job so you waste a lot of time if you don't screen some of the jobs offered yourself.

    • well said.

    • Over the fighting recruiters, DID they both rep you? I saw one rep and they never returned my call or email after saying they loved my work at the initial interview. Fuck them if they think they represent me.marchelo

    • marchelo, one didn't call me for a month, so that's why i went with another recruiter. then the first one found out. then they messed it all up. i probably didn't get a job at that agency because they didn't wanna deal with it.tkmeister
