Image resolution (DPI) only applies to print. It is describes how many PRINTED DOTs are printed per inch. If you change the DPI of an image but keep the pixel dimensions the same, on a print this will result in a different printed size. Images printed at 300dpi produce a high quality image and is the 'standard' resolution.

However on screen, 1 pixel in the image will always be displayed as 1 pixel on the screen. So whatever DPI the image is set to, the size on the screen will always be the same, and is determined by your monitor's resolution and screen size. I have a 19" monitor using 1024x1024 resolution, which displays at 86ppi (Pixels Per Inch - we are not using printed dots so screens use PPI and not DPI). You can work out your monitors PPI here: http://members.ping.de/~sven/dpi…
