    The little plastic lock is broken on my extension cable here, and it's not bothered me one jot in 18 months.

    I'd suggest spooling it so there's some slack at the busted end, then wedging the plug in with a toothpick, affixed with Blue Tack.

    Alternately buy a new cable for the tenner it'll cost you.
