Do you know what strikes me as odd about america, and I think (touches wood) it's the reason their unrivaled position of Global dominance is diminishing, is that the way in which your politics runs is designed for you to HATE the other side.

It's almost like it's become a sport where winning is everything and getting one over on the otherside is more important that what either side may or may not stand for.

I've been an interested observer with what's going on, and I've come to the conclusion that the US is voting itself into a diminished role in the world. I'd go so far to say that your version of democracy will ultimately destroy the freedoms you've fought for for so long.

You don't seem to care that your manufacturing is falling, your cars are crap, you're distrusted around the globe, you're economy is screwed, and that China is coming up on the outside.

It seems really odd to me that the guy who gets in can be seen as not being 'your president' and that if Obama got in there will be 45% of the country who genuinely hate him.

slightly incoherent argument I know, but one of my books is the wealth if nations that charted the rise and fall of empires and the causes there of.

Almost in every case it was an economic event that no one foresaw and the reason no one foresaw it was because they were often so powerful, that they became introverted and were more concerned with power than maintaining the reason they acquired that power.

Personally I think you're screwed. So much debt now that whoever gets in can only add to that debt to maintain a standard of life that the country thinks it deserves. Ultimately that debt is held by Europe, India, and china, and they all have you by the balls.

Anyway, we lost our empire and an unequally role in the world, screwed it up by being greedy, and we're ok. Sure you'll be fine too.

    • It wasn't always like this. It's a post Nixon thing.Mimio
    • Interesting viewpoint. For a while, I've told people that the U.S.'ll become like the old colonial powers, post-colonies.
