  Uh, you know this is pretty typical behaviour of girls and they do this all the time and it actualyl doesn't mean ANYTHING.

  Just don't react emotionally to her attention seeking behaviour and remain unphased. Ironically, this is all she wants from a man - that sense of "unphased security". That's why she asked you "would you protect me?" SHOW her, don't explain it to her.
