My cat caught a mouse today. With the live rodent in his mouth, he trotted into the living room and proceeded to put it down for a little more play. Being that my wife is squeemish about these things, i tried to escort him to the basement, hoping he didn't dart into some elusive corner of the nearby bedroom.
i finally got him into the basement, mouse in maw, and locked the cat-door (his litterbox is down there).
A couple seconds later i can only guess that the mouse escaped and ran under the door, because as i walked in to investigate the noise i saw that not only had the cat, in his zealous pursuit (and eventual re-capture), broken the cat-door lock, but he had also managed to open the entire door.
Alas, by this time the mouse was dead. Despite all efforts from my cat to get his plaything to move, he would not be urged from his sleep of death. The few cat treats i gave him were a mere token of praise for the mighty kill, which he continued to search for after i disposed of the corpse.

    • Your cat needs education. Mine always dropped the dead body of their prey on the doormat.Fariska
