    Just another thought in case it wasn't mentioned.

    It sounds like perhaps the client is trying to communicate a style preference with the friend's logo that you aren't reading entirely.
    The friend's logo strikes me as an attempt at something more "delicate" with some mystique.
    Yours feel more inspired by Asian pop and even manga to an extent. It feels heavy and saturated.

    Perhaps an approach is to ask your client for another round of comps and try to do something that echos the friend;s logo, at least in terms of style and vibe.
