Trail 5-6 in san onofre st. park for camping (tho trail 6 is also a nude beach ;) is my fav dog camp spot (trail 5). otherwise for just having a place to have your dog off leash and run around a bit: 1) dog beach in huntington (north of golden west ave.) 2) newport after oct 15th-before mem day wkend after 6pm and b/n the peers. 3)long beach near belmont shores, but again most have some strange seasonal or time restrictions...except for suggestion #1.
Up north there are many more.... kirk's creek is my ATF.
do some research, there are hundreds of blogs/sites dedicated to this.
If you're looking for anyplace super beautiful and dog friendly but off the beach, email me. there are too many to list here, and I'm boring most people that are reading this post.
