PC vs MAC again - I'm serious!

    I started a very similar thread ('Switch to Macs') a few weeks back as we considered switchng over to Macs as it reached that time to purchase new hardware for our business.

    We contemplated Macs very seriously; visited a local retail Mac store, spoke to Mac-using friends, similar businesses who were Mac based but after consideration we opted to stay with PCs.

    To give you an idea for some of OUR own reasons why:
    • we have custom built our own base units for less money than a similar spec Mac, i.e. quad core, solid state HD, dd3 ram and 26" monitors (sweet!)
    • purchasing/resourcing Mac vers of fonts and the odd PC-only app (we didn't really fancy any dual boot/emulation scenarios).
    • we also had to consider some additional expense for Apple Care warranty stuff for business purposes/insurance. (I've had previious dealings with the "sorry we can't help you sir unless you have an Apple Care warranty registration member number" type situation before).
    • Time issues of updating files and file formats

    Some people maybe thinking "ohh but this guy had PC's before so of course he will stick with what he knows", which is a fair comment. However, I started using Macs from day 1 way before I even touched a PC. I also own/previously owned both systems... so overall I tried to remain unbiased.

    So this is just my personal view. I think at the end of the day, like most people think here... use what you feel happy with and what suits your personal situation. You can weigh up pros 'n cons all day long... Whatever you decide you're still going to have a newer, faster machine to be productive on!

    • No, they're just not ready for non-mobile production machines - no real speed or efficiency benefits yet, and..Nairn
    • .. current versions have a much reduced lifespan compared to discs. I#ll try and dig out some backup literatureNairn

    • We're currently installing (literally) them so I'll keep you posted. Got some SATA backups of course, and all still under the costs of comparable Macs :)pang
