the general consensus was pre-debate mccain needed a knockout punch, or some sort of "game changer" (or whatever the fuck the press calls it). he seemed to interpret that as little snide remarks and constantly shitting on obama, which came at a sacrifice for pointing out his own plans (for the most part).
he didn't have a terrible night, but obama stayed poised whereas he seemed very george w bush like, snickering and meandering. i think a knockout for mccain would have been had he shown up and out-obama'd obama... been a statesman, spoken straight and clearly without the attacks. he sorta blew it on his "home turf" of a debate.
