My dad told me this story over the summer of how he got his first mattress. He was born just before WW2, and they used to sleep on straw bales (he said they actually were pretty comfortable). There was a Wehrmacht barracks near where they lived and as the US army was approaching, the soldiers abandoned the barracks. So the townspeople moved in to loot the place a bit. My grandfather apparently came home with a bunch of mattresses. My father was all excited that day, his first night on a proper mattress. But as soon as they turned off the lights, the mattresses came alive, they were full of lice and bedbugs. The next night they were back on the straw bales.
I was thinking of that last night when our washing machine wouldn't drain and i got all self-pitying...

    • lice, bedbugs probably the least of those soldiers problems
      ********
    • The problem with a broken washer is that it only breaks when you're in the middle of doing laundry.blaw
    • For some reason that pisses me off and you get an easy pass from me.blaw
