I should say I always prefer canon.
Have a powershot and a eos 10d.
The DIGIC Imaging Processor in Canon will reduce the amount of noise/"artifacts" form jpg compression.
I think the canon has slower download times, but better image quality.
the 3x optical zoom sucks.
works great in low light.
the video settings on the canon are superior as well
super small!!!!
great for casual use. if you want more professional photos get a canon digital slr. they have a digital rebel now too.
