I think that the excitment of sharing and communicating over the internet is beginning to fade now. It sounds utterly impossible to think that we may not carry on, but it has a paralell with the CB radio community that sprang up in the 80's. It seemed utterly impossible at the time (when they legalised FM and there was a nationwide craze for CB Radio) that it wouldn't last, It was counterculture cool, it meant you didn't have to pay to use BT telephones... like the Skype of its day... and the hardware and infrastrcuture was in place because everyone had invested in either a home rig, a car rig, or a handheld.
After yapping manically for four years, the whole thing just died almost overnigh, due to lack of anything more to say.
I think that's why these forum sites are all dying out now.
