An interesting tangent here is the interplay of context-specific fears, aesthetics and desire.
I would like to challenge and explore further the fascination with and desire of firearm design in advanced economies. They are predominantly a purchase born out of fear. That fear is retrospective, current or perceived. The firearm becomes an embodiment of that fear. It could be argued that the retention (carrying about) of that embodied fear leads to a mass psychosis. It is a ball and chain of real and imagined fear.
Hmmmm..... I'm sure the Design Against Crime research unit could have a PhD project on this.....
