I like the universaldesignstudio site nav. It's smart and simple.
I think you should draw your design out on paper first. I know you mentioned that the menu is a quick idea, but try to mock it up to as close to what you want , visually.
The idea is cool, but right now it doesn't look very attractive. Honestly it doesn't matter if it's been done a million times, it's what you can add to it that matters.
