    I think if you're good at what you do, and live in a big city, you'll be fine. There is always demand for good people!

    But, as someone who lives in a less-populated area, I think that there are many more companies that don't value design as much as they should. So, they may be pinched and think that it's better to take design out of the budget and undercut good work for hacks who will charge very very little. Then again, that happens whether it's a good economy or not!
