this is what you do:
tell her you're going for coffee. then casually suggest she come along. that gets you both out of the office and she will start seeing you as someone who exists outside of the work setting.
if she's not interested, she's either A) busy or B) not into you.
if A, throw it out there again some other time. DO NOT act like you give a shit.
if B,back off, but do your magic, subtly. (i generally will just act cocky as usual and make fun at her expense; insecurity makes girls want approval from you) and try again when you feel you've gotten her to the right point.
if she agrees, go out, get your coffee, get to know her. if you're not totally lame and awkward you can just continue seeing her like this and get on with your game.
never ever ever ask a girl on a date, that's like some stupid 80s shit i don't know who came up with. all that does is make everyone uncomfortable and make you look desperate.
