I researched this to death here in Atlantic Canada about 5 months ago. I purchased a 2002 Honda Civic and haven't had a single complaint since.
Here's why I didn't buy the other two:
Toyota Corolla:
It's a solid car but since the redesign they have been selling like hotcakes so you have little power to get a better deal from the dealer. When I was looking the Corolla would have cost me about $19,900 compaired to the $17,500 I paid for a Civic. Also, Toyota does wierd things with is dates now... example, I test drove a 2003 Corolla in August 2002 that had a manufacturing date of December 2001 (that's the one on the door that will determine your resale value). Odd.Mazda Protege:
Beside the fact that I didn't liek the look of this car, it too was more expensive and it was in a higher insurance bracket than the Corolla or Civic.I think the Civic and Corolla are both great cars. I just got more for my $$ with the Civic. Plus, I was happy purchasing a car manufactured here in Canada.
Email me if you have any questions.
