In the future people will converse with picture cards. Popular phrases such as "Yes, same, Not bad, How Are You?" will be passed back and forth between two or more people in refreshment zones. On the reverse side will be the reply "Oh, you know, busy, and you?" and the responsibility will fall upon the individual to flip the cards over before passing them back.
In urban environments where paper is at a premium and energy ports are numerous, the system of cards may may well be superceded by light emitting foreheads. In this way the question "HOWRU" can be flashed dirctly onto the retina of one or more other people, and a scanner on the bridge of the nose will receive the standard response. This, coupled with strobing projection technology, will make it possible to exchange stock pleasantries at up to 300 fps, thereby eliminating the opportunity for wayward thoughts to enter the individual consciousness. Each forehead will be uplinked to a central monitoring service and any subversion that did occur, as a result of a faulty forehead for example, can be detected and eliminated before it can take root as a concept of dissent amongst communities.
In this way, mankind can finally live in peace.
