    Like moamoa says, the solution depends on the typeface. Even though more often than not I will manually kern headlines, I find that certain typefaces, some from H&FJ in particular, pretty much kern themselves. Not for a pristine tightness and flow one expects in a logo mind you, but damn good enough for any headline. Mercury in particular has been a dream to work with for my church, I always use metric kerning and call it a day 9/10 times.
