    random bit of trivia.

    i share with you just because i happen to know it, and because i am a cunt. sorry, greedo. i mean no disrespect.

    beemer: BMW motorcycle
    bimmer: BMW car

    back in the day, when BMW got its start, there was a competitor bike company called BSA. their bikes were known as "beezers" BMWs became thus known as "beemers." when BMW started making cars the nickname for the cars became "bimmers."

    one explanation for the misinterpretation was that when BMWs became a yuppie status symbol in the 70s and 80s the idea of owning one's first BMW would leave you "beaming" hence "beamer." the mistake is common in canada and US.
