We used to have this family friend who was an engineer (he was also a hobby porn photographer as mentioned in a previous thread). He used to make steam engines and stuff and he was a member of the Perpetual Motion Society who used to meet to try and engineer a machine that would run forever self sufficiently.
He had spent his life on developing and fine tuning this amazing little inertia engine, all finely milled from best quality steel and brass, and once set off it would literally do its thing for an age but (obviously) was not a perpetual motion machine.
I loved that thing. When he died my family had to execute his will and deal with his belongings. All his machinery and machines went to good homes, except for his perpetual motion machine, which my parents just didn't understand the magic of at all, and they let the scrap man take it with all the shite. I was studying in London at the time so had no idea.

I was devastated when I discovered its fate years later when I remembered it. I think that's why I want a Stirling engine now, its the closest I will ever get to Frank's PM machine.
