it is a mentality difference. i can't put my finger on it. something about germany i value more than holland..
i think here people can be so incredibly narrow-minded or shortsighted in terms of privacy, people here are very focussed at one another.. i feel..
most companies in my regions are incredibly (!!!) UNinspiring. Really. Even the biggest ad/design agency here cranks out rubbish. The owners are good acquintances of mine so I can't tell them, but it is subpar. And somehow most people here don't know better, so that is why they still sell so well i guess. And then there's the sick amount of "web-companies", that are technically quite ok on web stuff, but "also do logo's for 240 euro".. ffs. There's so little here that inspires me.
I know it is better in Rotterdam, Amsterdam etc. but I am not going to live in the ghetto again, because of insane rental prices...
Hence my lookout to Germany.
I like the Gründlichkeit.. the quite (well somewhat more) silent, less screamy attitude of Germans, the cleannes of their design in a lot of things/industries (for instance TV.. i know, not superb, but a lot of times better than the crap that spews from our screens lately here..)..
And everytime I drive through Germany I feel good, sort of familiar.. I don't know. Can't put my finger on it so well, i just try to explain.
I think I am simply not as Dutch as a lot of Dutch people expect me to be.
oh yes, most of the people i know here shiver when you mention "esthetics", "culture" or "art", like they are curse words.. grr...
