If your boss told you that the company is not doing well and you should be prepared, why not stick around and save up money until you finally get a notice of termination? In the mean time, keep building your portfolio... And also like you mentioned your redundancy pay can help at the end.
I think the problem is more of a frustration, because the company is not doing well... I went through that before, sucks when all the co-workers keep whispering and spreading rumors and you are always looking over your shoulders... It is not a good work atmosphere, and I feel for you in that regards... But just be strong- my advise is stay until the end.
