An offhand observation: If keeping the gas pumps running the same way and maintaining military force projection at current levels are among the non-negotiables of both candidates and of our political elite in the United States, then everything else is well and truly fucked.
Than it's really not about governance at all, but rather who can best benignly manage the relative decline of it all while keeping the rich well tended and the proles from getting to uppity.
That is all.
