  I think it all depends on "well"
  you can live on:

  Rent: £1000 (inclusive)
  Food: £200
  Phone: £50
  Tube / Commuting: £50
  Fun stuff: £300

  Total: £1600 x 12mos. = £19,200

  If you want to be comfortable, shoot for nothing less than 30K
