Have you ever watched Big Brother Valentim? where people live in a house for weeks and its broadcast live on TV for 24 hours a day?
Its a smiliar sort of deal with the LHC... teams of volunteers are loaded into the collider and they get shot around the circuit on tiny bodyboards. They have to collect as many hoops as they can and avoid the traps and when they've completed 20 circuits they travel over a booster zone and get super accelerated to 350mph.
Then they crash and the one who survives take the points back to their team. The team that survives the longest gets a million dollars in cash.
Its the sick overlap in a venn diagram of extreme scientific insanity and the general public's insatiable fascination with morbid self-destruction and greed.
A lot of people are very angry about this.
