^if you just use the regular pen tool (not the one with the + for add anchor point) and click on your path, it'll add the anchor point you want. As you click, hold it down and drag it away to make a nice curve. It gets a bit screwy if you're too close to other points and might delete them, you'll have to zoom in. Also make sure you don't have curve handles in the way.
