    - Russia invaded Georgia?

Why would one of America's most notoriously right wing politicos / pundits defend Russia's actions?

    - - - -

    - Assassinations in London?
I hope you don't really think our own governments are above this kind of behaviour. Remember David Kelly?

    - - - - - - - - -

    - Oligarchs moving to London?
What the hell do you think you'd do if you'd raped your country's resources for billions of pounds and suddenly your mother land got wise to your actions? All of these 'oligarchs' were borne of the period Yeltsin's western-pandering of mismanagement, and have done very nicely out of it, thank you very much.

The sad thing is, Russia as a cohesive state is so ramshackle and on the verge of implosion, it needs nigh-on totalitarian rule. You seem to forget the decades where it was not a state functioning as we in the West understand - to assume it would right itself in less than a decade or so is freakishly naive. You also forget that our extreme-capitalist model is deeply open to abuse in such a 'frontier land'.

All these recent newsworthy events are posturing by all sides - the EU, being mostly non-militarised, has to shout loudly from the sociodemocratic podium and has to support NATO/capitalism. Russia needs to be seen to be strong, as does China and America too.

In an ideal world, there would be no need for someone like Putin - but that's not a world we find ourselves in.
