well, they simply had to spin his image i guess; he was widely portrayed as a nutjob back then, the feature on oprah had a similar agenda. a cruise flick won´t be a money machine anymore, when the audience thinks cruise is a loonie. so they tried to turn that around.
I think the PR guys did quite a good job actually. his press is not that bad and mean anymore.
