The other thing I sometimes do is multiply the size of something up by fours plus 10 or 20%, so either 410%, 810%, 1610% or 3210% if you've got enough HD room to sample up your file that big, then just sample it back down to its original size. The extra 10% breaks up hard definition so that when you reduce the size back down to where it was to begin with, its anti-aliased itself.
Takes an attemot or two before you figure out which emlargement and which extra 10 or 20% to add to be the most effectve for your image, but it works a treat.
