    happy ending. my wife suggested calling their tech support instead of their customer support to see if they could get us hooked up (backstory...we actually had service the first week we moved into the house from the previous owners...we had scheduled an install then they shut the service off).

    anyway, because we already had a cable modem, tech support got us hooked up. the funniest part is that customer service insisted repeatedly over the two weeks we tried to get someone out here that this wouldn't be possible.

    lesson: customer service reps at comcast are a bunch of minimum wage telemarketers that can barely think for themselves.
