the new 5d should be out with photokina 2008. i was just at a photo store and the guy said canon is burning the inventories of the standard 5d.
also price wise, canon generally is far superior to nikon competitors while the chips are better as well. nikon has a slight edge to canon with the nikor vs canon l series glass, but when you're talking high end dslrs there's really no comparing the two unless price is not a factor.
