    Response from direct mail is extremely minimal, but then again so is the cost of producing it. So it really depends on how good your list is. I suggest tracking your responses with a microsite (yoursite.com/dm) or a dedicated phone extension. This way, you can see how well the piece performed, and you can adjust for the next mailing. Do a small run at first... 250/500 so you don't have to invest too much. Your biggest expense will be the postage, which some printers can do in house for you. Good luck.
