I bought a nice box of black market Cohibas in Cuba. I didn't know they were fakes initially as I knew almost nothing about cigars. I paid about 10% store price so they were a steal either way.
They were in a wooden box and were actually pretty well made, had seals and certificates and everything. I only could see the difference in the tiny details when I went to a tobacco store and checked out some actual originals. The certificate's embossing was a little different. Also, the originals didn't stink right out of the box like Populares, the cheapest Cuban cigarettes :) Still, the package was a good job. I suspect they reuse original wooden boxes recycled after tourists. If not, they're really good counterfeiters. The burned-in etchings were perfect.

This is the kind of humidor they came in:

The knock-offs tasted great though and they were Cuban enough for me, sure were no Chinese fakes.
It was the thing to do, support people's business rather than the oppressing state's. Any opportunity to give them some capitalism and let them earn they money was good.

Sitting on Havana's Malecon with a cigar on my birthday is a thing I can only recommend..

    • yeah, stick to the government run tobacco stores or factories to be safe._niko
    • To buy 10x overpriced rolled tobacco? it's meant to burn anyway, I'd rather get fakes than sponsor these commies.rafalski
