i think its a introspective review of the human condition, expressing the artists desire to be understood while at the same time relaying what is wrong with his environment. By utilizing the simple banana as the catalyst for this expression, the mystique of the message remains protected. The depth of the work can only truly be examined once the realization of its true meaning is sort, and is then contrasted against the decaying human condition.
The banana represents our soul, while the explosion represents expression. The mask itself can be read as a synonym for the side of us all which we shun from public in our day to day lives and the bbq lighter is supposed to represent God, however this may be interpreted differently depending on your religious upbringing.
