I think the site works for you. It's in tune with your design style and is simple/quick to nav. (always a plus)
I do feel that the 'logo/brand/name" on the top needs to be a little less drab. Try to use a type face that is a bit more interesting, something clean and simple to go with the site style. And also don't be afraid to up the size and expirament with color on there as well. basiclly it's the only way the user is going to even remember which gray list site he/she was visiting.
I like the layout of the site, and the project photos bring interest to a simple design.
I am not bothered too much by empty/unused space but I would suggest to find a clever way to keep it clean and find some use for that area. I would say project info, but then you'd have to redesign your .fla content and layout...so naaah.
