XP needs to have the cleartype on to anti-alias text. This option can be found by right clicking->display properties->appearance->special features->type smoothing: set it to cleartype. Although XP still doesn't anti-alias fonts properly when this is on - not sure how vista handles it (I would hope better, but who knows with m$)
