Forget the post above (sorry acescence). Portfolios may speak volumes, but there's a lot of good portfolios out there and that doesn't make distinction any more (if it ever did). Write a good cover-letter: It's your first impression on a contractor, and how you express yourself may be a plus to the firm. Trust me - it's my job.
