Slaz, Salary resources are really always an estimate, and helps you find out if you are being underpaid, it all depends on location plus industry plus experience...
In other words, if you take part on a design contest, they offer let me just throw a number out there, $500 for a page layout and you lose the contest, you make $0 money, then you cross reference that amount against the salary guide, it will show you if you are being underpaid or not.
