Don't most upgrades require that you enter a previous version's serial before installing?
When CS3 came out, Adobe sent us a Master CD for free since we had just purchased CS2 less than a month before. It looked like an independent version, but was actually an upgrade. But, we were able to install it as both an upgrade AND a full install. Adobe gives you two licenses for two computers, so you might want to check with them. You might run across most of your problems when trying to install it on other machines.
