As mentioned above, the project sounds mis-managed, and should never have progressed to the point you find yourself at.
The client isn't "stupid", not at all. It's actually your fault that you find yourself in this position, posting help questions on a design portal.
Do your homework, communicate openly w/ your clients, have a process that you follow as closely as possible w/ every web project—you'll be a much happier person, and you'll troll these forums for fun, not out of desperation...
