Pretty damn good.
Though, 'pretty damn good' as a comic-book movie. By no means the brave new dawn for cinema it's being touted-as. Similarly, Ledger's act - wonderful. For a comic book movie. Unexpectedly menacing and dark. For a comic book movie. But it's, let's face it, merely a finally accurate rendering of the darkness of modern graphic novels - this kind of thing isn't really that unique out there in cinema land - it's just novel in this context.
And, frankly - that cellphone mechanic was fucking stupid - I'm glad they did what they did with it at the end, but while it existed, it lent Batman an omniscience that I don't think the character deserves.
I was also surprised at the fate of Harvey Dent - I mean, his arc was wonderful as a proxy for the city's heart - not so for the individual character - all that, for that?
Oh, and Batman's voice was laughable.
To clarify - I liked it, I just wish it hadn't been so inflated by everyone in internetland - it's not The. Best. Movie. Ever. as has been touted, but it is pretty damn good.
