man, all this guy wants is help in deciding on a computer to best fit his needs... geez, get to the point.

-for vid editing, "for the most part" you'll find the same things on both platforms = various video editing and layout apps that help you get your job done, you obviously won't get FCP of your windows box and you won't get vegas or premiere on your mac. AE you WILL find on both platforms and basically functions the same on both platforms - adobe built it this way on purpose.. but, shhh... don't tell anyone on this forum cause it might breakup a fight or something.

-someone mentioned an external firewire hard drive. if you're getting a tower anyway, DON'T get an external drive. The speed of the firewire bus may be fast and all but a hard drive's speed itself is the largest limiting factor. Get a fast hard drive to put IN your tower.

-on mac's, a dual processor system is used throughout the OS, basically meaning that ALL apps will benefit from both of them. On a windows machine, a dual proc system is used by "part" of the OS and basically only apps that are optimized for a dual proc system will use both at or near their full potential. I'm not sure if AE is optimized for dual's on a pc, but i'm guessing that it is (as well as many 3d programs generally).

-if you're going to go with a pc, it's generally cheaper to build it yourself anyway so don't even bother with dell. Cheap OEM parts=cheap machine. They have to make a profit obviously so they're not doing you a favor or anything to build you one;-)

-basically, just think about your best workflow and go from there. If you use FCP then get a mac, if you need a ton of DVD authoring choices, get a windows box, etc.. you see where i'm going with this..

    good luck!
