i'm in a very similar situation. I travel about 140 miles a day to to work. I recently took another job that is maybe 3 miles away from my new apartment. The new job is completely different from what i'm doing now and i took a small pay cut, but i am looking forward to having extra time each day to do whatever the hell i want.
i was somewhat scared of change as well, but i'm really excited. it's cool that you really like your job, but just think of the extra time you'll have with your wife and to yourself. if you do take the new job, just leave on good terms at your current place in case things don't work out. hopefully they will be understanding considering your commute.
