i remember one time i was in an elevator at my apartment complex with this girl, who happened to be black. it was actually an old roosevelt high school in atlanta and there were a lot of black people who lived there. sounds weird but i grew up around this kind of folk so i have a certain appreciation for them. anyway, i was trying to make small talk (which i'm horrid at) about my laundry and somehow the topic of separating the whites from the colored came up and i just about ate my shoes.
