I think of the Jewish practice of sitting Shivah (sp?). It's when people are mourning over a death. They just sit with each other, sometimes speaking, sometimes not – but those sitting Shivah are there primarily to listen without offering snarky advice. Spend some time with your buddy. Not over shots getting hammered, but good man time. Go camping with him, hiking, art gallery, whatever...just be a friend.
That's awful man. My brother is going through some heavy stuff right now too, and it's no picnic. I'll pray for your friend.
