"In the absence of treatment, the overlying skin becomes brawny and wrinkled, with a characteristic violaceous hue, and the abscesses within the nodes coalesce and drain from one or more sinus tracts. The tertiary stage is manifested as an anogenital syndrome with formation of perirectal abscesses, rectal strictures, and fistulas; this stage is usually seen in women and homosexual men."
