i have exacly the same problems with my display. i did a research and plugged my contacts @ apple: if you use an older monitor (mine eg. 1999) it may be that osx doesn't recon how much resolution it can handle. i used http://www.madrau.com/html/SRX/i… for a while, but it didn't solve the problem. maybe a little apple script can help you (@startup, change to your preferred resolution)
